Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Will my Solar system work all year round and in the British climate?
A. Skyline’s solar water heating system is designed to work all year round and is ideal for the British climate. In fact, it is a common misconception that the UK does not receive enough sunlight - Solar Thermal can provide up to 70% of your annual hot water requirements on average throughout the year, although a system is typically more productive during the Summer than the Winter.

PV panels convert light into electricity. Peak production is during the Summer months when radiation levels are higher and the days are longer. The exact amount of electricity produced is dependant upon the size (power) of the Solar array, the position & location of the panels on the property - ie their geographical orientation and their inclination to the sun. Basically, the more panels installed, (each producing 210 watts), the more power is generated, (and measured in kilo Watt hours). A 3.8kW, (18 panels), would be expected to produce between 3-4,000 kWh under ideal conditions in the average year.

Q. Do I need Planning Permission?
A. Usually Planning Permission is not required unless you live in a conservation area or an area of outstanding natural beauty where permission may be necessary. Either way as part of our home survey we will contact the necessary authorities on your behalf.

Q. How about listed buildings?
A. We do install solar water heating systems on listed building. However, planning consent is required from the local authorities and we are happy to apply for you.

Q. What are the main components of a Solar Water Heating System?
A. There are three main components that make up a solar water heating system, the Collectors, the Cylinder and the Controller. The Collectors take energy from daylight sources and then heat the 'heat medium' in the Collector which is transferred to a specifically designed solar coil in the Cylinder, the Controller then regulates the flow and temperature of water.

Q. How much does it cost?
A. Thermal systems are individually designed to suit each household's requirements. The price depends on many variables, such as the number of users, hot water usage, orientation and latitude of the property.

PV systems are dependant upon the availability of suitable roof space, and the availability of funds to invest. Since the size of the investment and the potential return are directly correlated, the larger the investment, the higher the return. Q. Does Skyline provide a Guarantee?
A. Yes, you’ll receive a comprehensive guarantee.

For complete peace of mind, our products and services come with a comprehensive guarantee. Our thermal solar panels, (collectors), are covered by a 10 year manufacturers guarantee and Solar Cylinder a 5 year manufacturer's guarantee. Our PV panels are covered by a 5 year manufacturers guarantee against manufacturing defects, and a 25 year performance guarantee. Furthermore, our installation works are covered by a 12 month guarantee. For more information about the Skyline guarantee, call us now.

Q. How about maintenance?
A. Maintenance is minimal as our systems are designed and built using high quality components. Should you have any queries you can contact our customer service department who will be happy to help you.
